Hey, just a friendly reminder from the Glasshopper team:

Tier II Reporting season is coming up.

And if you're responsible for environmental compliance at a manufacturing facility, now is a good time to take a look at what's actually sitting around your facility.

Tier II reporting isn't something you want to discover at the last minute.

Over the course of a year, things change.

A new chemical gets added to the process.

An old one gets replaced.

Inventory levels change.

A new storage area gets created.

Something gets moved.

And sometimes, the information in last year's report simply doesn't match what's happening on the plant floor anymore.

That's why we recommend taking a little time to walk the facility before you start filling out your report.

Look around.

Check your chemical inventory.

Talk to the people who manage materials and know what's actually being stored.

Compare what you find to your existing records.

It doesn't have to be complicated.

You're really asking some pretty straightforward questions:

  • What hazardous chemicals are we storing?
  • Where are they located?
  • Have our quantities changed?
  • Did we add or remove anything?
  • Does our documentation match what's actually in the facility?

A little time spent walking the plant now can save a lot of scrambling later.

And here's the thing: the people closest to the operation often have the information you need.

Your purchasing team may know what's been added.

Your maintenance team may know what's changed.

Your production team may know what's actually being used.

Your EHS team may know what needs to be reported.

Sometimes, all it takes is getting everyone on the same page.

The Glasshopper Take

Tier II reporting may be an annual requirement, but good compliance shouldn't be an annual activity.

Stay aware of what's changing. Stay practical about your process. And stay ahead of the deadline.

If you haven't started looking at your Tier II information yet, consider this your friendly nudge.

Take a walk.

Check your inventory.

Ask a few questions.

You might be surprised by what you find.

And if you'd rather have another set of eyes on it, give us a call. We're always ready to jump in.
